This ongoing project was created to collect information about these digital Black History projects in order to benefit historians, genealogists, and family historians who are researching the lives of Black individuals and families.

| They Had Names | A free, searchable database containing abstracts and transcripts of thousands of documents naming enslaved and free African Americans in Liberty County, Georgia, from the colonial period through 1900. Includes wills, estate inventories, deeds of gift, chattel mortgages, marriage contracts, church records, court records, etc, with 40,000+ references to named individuals. For 1865-1900, has abstracts and lists for land purchases, loans (identifying property being mortgaged), homestead exemption petitions (identifying land and property), divorces (for name changes). Also includes full transcripts of 70+ U.S. Southern Claims Commission petitions, many of which were submitted by newly freed people, and research on the claimants, plus research on other individuals, stories from the time period, research aids, and videos.
